How to Have Fun with Your Dog at the Mall

Filed under: Pet grooming — gregwatson @ 2:41 am

When some people think about enjoying a leisurely trip to the local mall, they like to grab their best friend to join them. That way they have a partner in crime for joining in with them and tasting all types of tempting treats at the food court. Plus, of course, it’s always good to have someone along to blame when your spouse asks you why you had to buy yet another favorite shirt or pair of jeans. (Your friend pointed out the sale, and it was two-for-one, right, so you just HAD to do your part in the deal?!)

Well, there are other ways to enjoy your mall adventures now, thanks to pet stores opening up throughout malls round the world and nifty pet accessories to use that enable you to bring your little best four-legged friend along with you.

First of all you can bundle Fido up in a pet stroller. Pet strollers are gaining in popularity and the funny thing is, mall visitors often peak inside them, thinking a cute baby is in there, only to jump back and gasp, “Oh!” when a hairy beast pops its head up for a pat or treat. So do be prepared for mall-peepers, as many will want to see your “baby.”

Now what some pet owners do is try to make the stroller ride as comfortable as possible, so Fido doesn’t try to jump out and run around the mall, a no-no. To do this, adding nice, comfortable dog beds on the inside is the best way to go. There are small sizes that may fit in there like a glove. However, if in doubt, just do your best and use any excess to line surrounding  stroller area on the inside, pushing it up against the stroller fabric walls like an enforced wall to keep Fido snug.

Now to get around well, dog ramps can sure work wonders. Most malls already have some types of ramps for wheel chair accessibility. And so do the pet stores inside them, if you need to enter from out back or from a side door. What you can do, though, to play it safe is pick up some affordable dog ramps that you can easily stash in your trunk or back seat to make things easier on yourself – and Fido.

Of course once you’re in the mall, it goes without saying, “Have fun!” Show off your “baby” and hand out small treats to passers-by who may want to pet your friend, especially young children. And of course go into the pet store to get free samples that they’ll surely be passing out to four-legged guests - -maybe even the owners, too.

Then before you head home, stop off at the local park and take Fido for a walk. Don’t forget that pooper-scooper and disposable bag to toss in the trash! Or opt to use your pet stroller again, using the ramps to help you up any rough areas like gravel roads or areas covered with debris from winter late-cleanup. Fido will enjoy the ride, snuggled inside with his warm, soft dog bed taking in nice fresh air and enjoying time with his best friend, you!

Here are a couple tips before you go to the mall with your pet and supplies. First, call ahead or check there without your pet first to make sure (a) there is a pet store and (b) you can bring your pet. And ask about access for your stroller and any specials rules and regulations there may be. For example, with some breeds of dogs, like pit bulls, you must have insurance in some states to cover any possible bites they incur to Humane. Check with your local Humane Society for tips and advice, too.

Wound Up? Unwind With Clean and Calm Scents For Your Home.

Filed under: Garden soil — gregwatson @ 9:54 am

Let’s admit it – life can be stressful at times. Hard work and a family can lead to a lifestyle so hectic that you wonder if there are enough hours in the day to complete any “to do” list.

A cluttered schedule can lead to a cluttered mind, so it is vital to take a few moments of relaxation within the whirlwind of everyday life. Clarity and calm are qualities from within that are to be cherished. Burning highly scented candles with clean and calming aromas is a good way to help you unwind after a hard day at the office, or a fun-packed weekend with the kids.

These candles can be the perfect antidote for stress; their fragrances are linked to optimizing relaxation and uplifting spirits. Relaxation candles are at home in the living room or any other part of the house. Nature-inspired fragrances are usually dispersed to create a calm ambience. Plus, the warm glow of a dancing flame is also very soothing to watch.

So close your eyes, take a deep breath, and calm yourself by creating a spa getaway within your own home.

Minty fresh

Mint fragrances have a very clean quality. Just as peppermint tea is known to be beneficial for stressed-out moments, a peppermint scented candle can work wonders when you want to relax at home. Look for scented jar candles to burn when relaxing, so there will be no spillage or wax worries.

A self-contained, minty fresh candle like ‘Mint Mojito’ by Flare Candles will soothe from the second it is lit. Everything about the Flare Candle is fresh and clean – the packaging is stylish, but not overly-detailed, and the jar is clean, clear glass.

Yankee Candle, a popular brand of scented candles, offers a nice range of fresh aromas to look out for too. Perhaps look for a candle with more simple menthol aromas like spearmint, which will calm your nerves and invigorate your mind.

Zen aromas

Cannot decide on one relaxing scent? Well you don’t have to anymore! Triple-scented candles are becoming popular in homes throughout the world. They are designed to provide three different unique scents when burnt and also provide an interesting, complimentary color scheme for the home.

Some of these triple-scented wonders come in Zen or Zen-like aromas that are meant to aid meditation and relaxation. If you are looking for a less-complicated candle, why not look for Zen-based scented tea lights to scatter around your room of relaxation? Let the collection of warm glows and Zen aromas transport you to a place and time of gentle calm.

Clean aqua scents

Water is known for its calming qualities. From the relaxing sound of waves to a long soak in the tub, H2O is able to unwind any stressed-out mind and body. Aqua aromas also serve a calming purpose and have been added to many scented candles. Many people ask, “How can water have a scent?” Well, water definitely does, and Trapp provide it in their cute, scented ‘Water’ votives. This candle is said to add positive energy to any room.

Beanpod also offer the simple smell of a ‘Beach Walk’ tea lights that are similar to the scents of an ocean basted in sunshine. So no matter how far you are from the coast, you can enjoy it right on your doorstep.

Turn your home into a relaxing spa getaway

A great way to unwind after a hard day at work is to eat a dinner of fresh foods that will not make you sluggish. Next, turn the lights off or down low in the living room and carefully light a couple of calming scented candles. Pick your favorite spot on the sofa and nestle yourself in, surrounding yourself with comfortable cushions. Put your feet up and begin to inhale the clean scents diffusing in the air. Why not indulge yourself with a couple of cucumber slices to soothe your eyes, or a detoxifying face mask to calm your skin?

There are many clean, fresh and calming scented candles available to soothe your mind and soul.  Everybody deserves a place and time of calm collectiveness, and we all need a chance to unwind.  Pampering yourself with candles is incredibly easy, and beautiful for your home too.

Shades For Your Home - Patio Umbrellas

Filed under: Garden soil — gregwatson @ 3:27 pm

With today’s wide choices in lifestyle and the trends that go with it, choosing outdoor umbrellas can be a daunting task. This is, of course, assuming that you are one of those lucky enough to have a piece of garden or a terrace, and that, for you, to sit outside in the shade is a pleasure that should not be passed up.

Yes, there is nothing like a shady, languid afternoon with a best-seller novel for company and a cool drink nearby.

And whether you are a slave to fashion and trends or simply a practical kind of property owner, you would still want that patio umbrella to blend in with the environment you have created. Better still, if this shade provider can enhance the place and the other furniture around it.

Besides being aesthetically pleasing, patio market umbrellas have perhaps a more important function. Today’s sun is stronger and more harmful. These umbrellas are among the best ways to remain outside without absorbing the harmful UV rays of the sun.

So how does one go about choosing one of these market umbrellas? Not only are there so many designs and make to choose from, there are other considerations to make because this piece of garden furniture can either be attached to other patio furniture, such as a table, or free standing on a deck, walkway, or even on the lawn. Yes, Sigh!

Now that we know that the real focus is getting protection from the sun, it is also good to remember that it is best if the outdoor umbrella is free-standing, with a strong and secure base. This way you can either have it on its own or arrange it together with lounge sets.

Among the first things you need to do is to determine is how much room you have for your umbrella. Start by measuring the length and width of the area you want shaded, allowing about six inches from all sides of the umbrella for clearance. This will allow it to go up and down without any obstruction.

Do the math and you have an idea of how big a market umbrella will fit in your area. Tip: Smaller umbrellas are great for caf and bistro settings while mid-sized umbrellas, such as 9 foot and 10 foot umbrellas, are best for covering a dining set or chaise lounges.

As for the design of this device, it really boils down to personal preference even though most outdoor patio umbrellas are made of either wood or aluminum. Wooden ones provide an elegant look and especially suitable in tropical and classic settings.

The aluminum frames, meanwhile, besides being available in a multitude of colors completing a modern look, also have some neat functions not usually found on wood frames. This kind opens and closes with either crank, manual lift, pulley mechanism, kwik lift, or remote control. The wooden ones can only open and close with either manual lift or pulley mechanism with a brass holding pin to secure its height.

Another great advantage of having aluminum-made outdoor umbrella is that they are available with either push button tilt (3 positions), non-tilt, auto-tilt (keep cranking to tilt) or full rotation functions (offset umbrellas). No tilting for wood-based umbrellas.

However, parts for aluminum patio umbrellas are harder to replace. You would need to keep the manufacturer’s contact numbers and addresses to make sure you know who to contact in order to replace any faulty parts.

But take heart. Because these aluminum umbrellas are mostly machine-made, there is also a huge selection of frame colors to choose from. The better for matching this device to the furniture you intend to place around it.

The best (or in this case maybe even most daunting) part of this market umbrella-hunting job is perhaps choosing the fabric or material of the device together with colors, shapes and even designs.

The recommended way to go about this is really to shop around thoroughly before making a decision. After all, you are going to spend some hard-earned money on it and you would want it to last. The advent of the World Wide Web makes window shopping for this item easier on the feet. Clicking here and there may help you see as many available options there are on the market. You can try to get one from your local dealer or even have it custom-made from overseas.

The choice is yours. Mind you however, having a patio umbrella in your garden, terrace, patio or verandah, however luxurious a picture it paints, is still actually the cheaper option to installing an awning. Call these umbrellas free-standing or four-legged awning if you will but the fact remains that their upkeep is straightforward just ensure surfaces of the fabric are free of dirt, leaves and standing water. And cleaning is just with mild soap which will not damage the water-repellent finish.
